Tutorhand.com is unlike many other tutor-search websites because it focuses specifically on you, the tutor. Tutorhand.com allows you to promote yourself via the web and present yourself as the professional tutor that you are without having to spend the money and time to build your own website. Through Tutorhand.com, you can create a personal web page in about fifteen to twenty minutes which will also concurrently enter you into the Hand Network searchable database where potential students can find your page based on your subject specialties, location, price, or availability.
On Tutorhand.com you can create your very own personal profile page which will act as your professional tutoring website. Additionally, Tutorhand.com will provide you with an "easy to distribute" URL so you can create business cards, emails, and other promotional material to direct potential students and families straight to your web page. On your page, you will be able to post a picture of yourself next to your general information. You will be able to write an informational blurb about yourself, list your subject strengths, and indicate the age range in which you specialize. In addition, you will be able to show potential students your availability and contact information in order to facilitate scheduling. You will have the ability to upload files to your page — perhaps a study guide for your current students or a sample of your technique for potential students. Beyond these features, you will even be able to post a video of yourself for students to watch and take payment directly through Tutorhand.com via PayPal.
On Tutorhand.com there is also a tutor resources area where you will find standardized forms available for download including student agreements and contracts. The site directors will constantly accept and update new tutoring resources to help the site members be more effective tutors.
User Name: When you select your user name, make sure that you choose an-easy-to-remember name. Once you have chosen a user name you will also have the chance to choose a "permalink" name that will appear at the end of your URL. Your URL will read www.tutorhand.com/permalink. An algorithm in the system will determine if the availability of your suggested permalink name.
Create Profile: Once you have selected a username and password, you can begin creating a profile. After clicking the "Create Profile" button, you will be brought to a profile creation page that you can use to fill in all of the fields and displays that will be made publicly available to potential students. To help protect your privacy, you will also have the option of entering additional contact or biographical information that will be made exclusively available to those students who have registered with Tutorhand.com.
Name: Please fill in your full Name to be displayed as your page title.
Agency: Please fill in your Agency which will show up under your name. You can also choose to write "independent" or leave the space blank. If you are part of an agency, you will have the option of uploading the logo for your agency and creating a hyperlink to your agency's website.
Picture: You can upload a picture of yourself or of anything you would like to be in the top left corner of your page. Remember to keep it tasteful as this will be the professional image that will be displayed to attract potential students. Tutorhand.com reserves the right to remove any pictures that are offensive, in poor taste, or inconsistent with Tutorhand.com's reasonable expectations for professionalism on the site.
About Yourself: The "about yourself" box is free space to write whatever you would like. This can be formatted any way you would like and is one of the first things that potential students will read when the first come to your page. Would you like to mention your schooling? Your experience? A funny anecdote about yourself? The content presented in this box is a great way for you to advertise yourself however you like.
Subjects: You can check individual boxes to indicate the subjects that you specialize in, you can also check the box that reads "all subjects" or write in other subjects. All of your specialty subjects will be shown on your page and can be searched by potential students.
Grade levels: You can check individual boxes to indicate the grade levels that you specialize in, you can also check the box that reads "all grade levels" or write in other entrees. All of your grade levels will be shown on your page and can be searched by potential students.
Availability: The availability chart can be filled in by clicking the boxes that indicate the time and day of your availability "available=a green check", "not available=no green check" Your available times will show up as green boxes on your availability chart for potential students to review and determine if your schedules match. Please update this often so students can have an accurate understanding of your schedule.
PayPal: Make sure to click on the PayPal link and follow the prompts to set up or directly link to your pre-existing account if you would like students to be able to pay you via the web.
Video: Video: You can also enter a YouTube code to embed a YouTube video into your page for potential students to view. Potential students will be able to play your video by simply clicking on it.
Contact information: Make sure to enter your contact information which will be displayed on your page so that potential students can get in touch with you. You can feel free to enter any contact information you would like, and leave out any information you would like to keep private. Your information will only be made available to those students who have created accounts and signed into the site.
Payment: You will be asked for your credit card information before you have completed publishing your profile. We will use this information in order to take payment for your profile only.
Tutor resources: You can follow the link to Tutor Resources at any point after you have created your account. Feel free to browse the resource pages and print out any that you would like to use with your students. The resource pages are for your use only, and not for the use of others who have not signed up for a Tutorhand.com profile. Please feel free to share resources the group to make this section more effective.
Tutorhand.com allows you, the student to search a database of tutors by subject specialty, grade level specialty, location and availability. Further, it allows you to view the profile pages of tutors, learn about their background, schedule, skills, and specialties, and then contact them directly to set up an appointment.
Tutors contact information will be available so that you can email them directly or speak to them on the phone in order to schedule tutoring sessions.
Create Account: You will first be asked to create an account from the Tutorhand.com homepage. It is free and easy and after you have done so, you will be able to search for a tutor to match your needs.
Search Page: The search page allows you to enter a number of different points of criteria in order to narrow down your search. You can search for a tutor specifically by name or by the agency that you would like to work with. If you are not concerned with finding a specific person or working with a specific agency, you can use the drop down menus to select the criteria that you are looking for in a tutor. As with all searches, the more selections you make will help yield more specific results to your needs.
List of Tutors: Once you have submitted your search, you will be shown a list of tutors that meet your criteria. You will be able to see their picture and part of their submitted personal information. At this point you can click on any Tutor and you will be taken to that tutors profile page.
Profile page: A tutor's profile page is designed by the tutor to give you as much information as possible about that tutor so that you can make an informed decision. You can see a tutor's specialties, their availability, and their personal information, as well as their contact information. Many tutors place videos on their pages as well for you to watch. Feel free to contact the tutors directly using the information they provide.
